An Asylum seeker has been sentenced to 12 years in prison following the rape and assault of a 12-year-old girl in Birmingham. The attack occurred above a shop in Handsworth where he was working illegally.
The perpetrator, identified as Mohammed Wahid Mohammed, encountered the girl—who had arrived in the city alone—outside Villa Supermarket on Villa Road. He offered her snacks and a place to stay under the pretense of helping her off the streets. Once inside, he locked her in a room and subjected her to a prolonged and violent attack.

Despite attempting to claim that the young girl had consented, the court found him guilty of three counts of rape and two counts of sexual assault involving a child under 13. Judge Roderick Henderson described the man as a “dangerous offender” and imposed an additional five-year extended licence.
The victim had initially attempted to appear older but disclosed her true age before the assault began. Her ordeal ended when staff at a nearby takeaway grew suspicious and contacted authorities after recognizing her from a missing persons alert.
The man is reportedly seeking asylum from Syria, but the judge clarified that decisions about his immigration status and potential deportation will be handled separately by relevant authorities.
During sentencing the judge said:
“This was a sustained event, albeit on one day. There was some grooming although it was limited in time. But you exploited her because she was plainly young and effectively away from home.”
The judge failed to issue him a deportation order upon his release, saying its down to the authorites to decide the deportation issue at a later stage.
West Midlands Police, who investigated this case, have FAILED to issue a mugshot of the offender which has angered the British public. The police force have been accused on social media of being two tier in nature.
Update to the article:
West Midlands Police have now released the mug shot of Mohammed. It took Predator Awareness to publically shame them to force them to release.
