A 27-year-old man from Eritrea, who entered the UK illegally via the Channel, has been sentenced to prison following the sexual assault of an “extremely vulnerable” young woman with learning difficulties.
The victim, a 19-year-old girl, had been sent by her mother to collect fruit from a food bank in West London when she encountered Aron Hadsh, who was residing in a taxpayer-funded hotel near Heathrow.
Hadsh followed her to a park in Fulham, where he restrained her, groped her breasts, and touched her inappropriately for several minutes. Despite being terrified, the victim managed to escape, later recounting how Hadsh laughed as she fled the scene.
Five weeks later, she spotted him while out shopping, leading to his arrest by police after members of the public intervened.
In May, Hadsh was convicted of one count of sexual assault and acquitted of kidnapping. On Friday, he was sentenced to 14 months in prison and given a five-year restraining order. Because he had already served nearly a year in custody, he will not serve additional time behind bars.
During sentencing, Judge Alastair Rolf Hammerton described the victim as “extremely vulnerable” and warned that Hadsh presented “a high risk of serious harm to the public” and “a high risk of sexual reoffending.” The judge also acknowledged that Hadsh faced challenges in custody due to language barriers, though noted he had shown no remorse and continued to deny responsibility.
Hadsh dismissed his legal counsel midway through the trial and appeared at sentencing without representation.
In a deeply emotional statement read to the court, the victim shared how the assault had left her feeling “nervous and scared,” saying it forced her to retreat emotionally and struggle further with isolation:
“All my life it has been hard to make friends, and this has put me back in my own bubble. I was scared to see him again, in case he would kill me, because he was laughing after he ran off and sexually assaulted me.”
The judge failed to issue to a deportation order. Hadsh was released from court and will return to tax payer funded accommodation.
