A Lambeth councillor has been suspended from the Labour Party following serious criminal charges stemming from an alleged assault on a woman in Peckham.
Councillor Irfan Mohammed, 42, of Copleston Road, Peckham, appeared at Croydon Magistrates’ Court on Monday, July 14, alongside two other men. He faces charges of Sexual assault, Exposure and Engaging in controlling or coercive behaviour in an intimate relationship.
Two other individuals were also charged in connection with the same incident:
Kaymren Mohammed, 38, of Copleston Road, was charged with Controlling behaviour in an intimate relationship and Three counts of assault by beating.
Zairab Mohammed, 72, also of Copleston Road, was charged with Controlling behaviour in an intimate relationship.
All three are scheduled to appear in court at Inner London Crown Court on Monday, August 11.
The charges relate to an incident that occurred on Saturday, July 12, when police were called to Copleston Road, SE15, at 13:22hrs. Officers arrested the three men at the scene following reports of an assault on a woman. The woman did not require hospital treatment.
Following the arrest and charges, Lambeth Council confirmed that Irfan Mohammed has been removed from his role as Deputy Cabinet Member, suspended from all council committees, suspended from the Lambeth Labour Group.

Mohammed has served as a councillor since 2018, initially representing Ferndale ward, and was elected to represent Clapham Park ward in 2022.
A Lambeth Council spokesperson said:
“Following notification to the council from the police of an arrest and subsequent criminal charges, Councillor Irfan Mohammed has been removed from his position as a Deputy Cabinet Member and all council committees, pending resolution of the allegations against him. His membership of Lambeth Labour Group has also been suspended.”
Lambeth Council has stated it will not comment further due to the ongoing investigation.
