A growing coalition of campaigners and local representatives is urging Motorpoint Arena to reconsider hosting heavy metal artist Marilyn Manson, real name Brian Warner, later this year.

Sian Berry MP for Brighton Pavilion.

Manson is scheduled to perform at Motorpoint Arena on November 2 as part of his ‘One Assassination Under God’ UK tour. The first show in Brighton, originally set for October 26, was cancelled in June following pressure from campaign groups and concerns raised by Green Party MP Sian Berry.

Cllr Georgia Power and Cllr Matt Shannon

Locally, two Nottingham city councillors—Georgia Power (Bestwood ward, Labour) and Matt Shannon (Castle ward)—have voiced opposition to the upcoming event. Power stated she shares campaigners’ concerns about the message platforming Manson sends to women in the city. Shannon echoed the sentiment, expressing strong disapproval of Motorpoint’s decision to host the concert.

Alex Norris MP and Nadia Whittome MP have also joined called for the gig to be cancelled.

Alex Norris, Labour MP for Nottingham North and Kimberley, has also written to arena officials asking that the booking be reconsidered. In a statement to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, he joined others in calling for scrutiny of the event.

Labour MP for Nottingham East, Nadia Whittome, has now also joined the calls for the event to be withdrawn. Predator Awareness contacted her office for comment, with a spokesperson confirming that the MP will be raising the matter with council officials. “I can confirm that she (Nadia) will be contacting the council to raise her concerns on this matter,” they stated. Her involvement adds further momentum to the growing pressure on Nottingham’s Motorpoint Arena.

The campaign is supported by Male Allies Challenging Sexism (MACS), whose co-founder Bjorn expressed disappointment with Nottingham’s stance, noting that the city often speaks out on issues of gender-based violence. He urged the council to take a clearer moral position.

While Nottingham City Council developed and owns the Motorpoint Arena, it clarified that the venue operates independently and is solely responsible for its event programming. Nevertheless, the council leader confirmed that legal advice is being sought regarding the booking and plans to raise concerns with the Home Secretary.

A spokesperson for Motorpoint Arena declined to comment, and no formal announcement has been made regarding any change to the planned performance.

U.S. prosecutors announced earlier this year that no charges would be filed against Manson following a lengthy investigation into allegations of sexual assault and domestic violence.

Predator Awareness has contacted Nottingham’s Motorpoint Arena further for comment.
