A Fleetwood man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison after being found guilty of the rape and sexual assault of a child under 13. The sentencing came at the conclusion of a four-day trial held at Preston Crown Court.
Ryan Diamond, 32, of Broadway, Fleetwood, was convicted of one count of rape and two counts of sexual assault by touching. The offences were committed in 2021 in Blackpool, when the victim was just eight years old.
Diamond’s name has now been added to the sex offenders register indefinitely. In addition, the court issued a restraining order against him, to remain in effect until further notice.
Senior Crown Prosecutor Brett Gerrity, of the North West Rape and Serious Sexual Offences Unit, condemned Diamond’s actions:
“Ryan Diamond is a sexual predator who abused a young child for his own sexual gratification, with no thought for the lasting damage his sickening abuse would cause.”
He added that the child’s family was “understandably devastated” and criticised Diamond for forcing them to endure a trial rather than admitting the harm he inflicted.
“This is a significant sentence, I hope the family can see that justice has been served and begin to put what happened behind them. The CPS is committed to bringing sex offenders to justice.”
