A Worcester man has been sentenced to 14 years in prison for non-recent sexual abuse of girls under the age of 13.

Anthony Blewitt, 65, of Selborne Road, Worcester, was found guilty on Wednesday by a jury of nine counts of child sexual abuse committed between 2002 and 2015.

At Worcester Crown Court today, Blewitt was handed a 14-year custodial sentence. He must serve at least two-thirds of the term before being considered for release and has been ordered to register as a sex offender indefinitely.

Blewitt was convicted of the following offences:
– Assault of a child under 13 by penetration – 14 years
– Sexual assault of a child under 13 – 5 years
– Causing or inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity – 8 years
– Three counts of indecency with a child – 8 years
– Three counts of indecent assault – 8 years

The sentences are to run concurrently.

Investigating officer DC Natasha Kennett, of Worcester CID, welcomed the outcome:

“We are pleased to get this custodial sentence today for Blewitt whose disgusting sexual abuse of young girls deserves this lengthy term.

I would like to pay tribute to the bravery and resilience of his victims who have suffered enough and been patient while the case came through the courts.

We hope today’s verdict shows we will always listen to anyone who has concerns about or been a victim of sexual abuse and prosecute where appropriate, and that it may encourage anyone who has suffered similar abuse to come forward and speak to us.

We will always listen to you, take your concerns seriously and protect you from predators like Anthony Blewitt.”
