Two Labour councillors have appeared in court charged in connection with an alleged violent incident in Cradley Heath in what as been described as a ‘Stabbing’ related incident, with both defendants entering not guilty pleas.
Danny Millard and Claire Mayo appeared before Wolverhampton Crown Court today facing multiple charges linked to the incident. Proceedings focused on the formal entry of pleas and preliminary legal matters ahead of a future trial.
Millard faces charges of assault, affray, and aiding an affray. During the hearing, he entered not guilty pleas to the assault and affray charges. The court was told that an application has been submitted to dismiss the aiding an affray charge, although that matter will be considered at a later date and was not ruled on during this hearing.
Mayo, meanwhile, faces two counts of assault and two counts of affray. She entered not guilty pleas to all charges.
The case also involves co-defendants Kelsea Scott and Mitchel Weston, who were not present in court as they had previously entered not guilty pleas at an earlier hearing.
During proceedings, the judge raised concerns regarding Millard’s legal representation, noting that his barrister had failed to inform the Crown Prosecution Service of the intention to apply to have one of the charges dismissed. The issue was formally acknowledged in court but will be addressed separately as the case progresses.
The matter will now move forward to trial preparation, with a trial date scheduled for 23 July 2029.
