A dangerous child rapist from the Bradford district who showed zero remorse for his crimes has been handed an extended prison sentence after a court heard of the devastating, lifelong impact on two young victims. Ethan Wright, 21, was found guilty last October at Bradford Crown Court of multiple sexual offences against a boy and a girl — offences so serious that Recorder Abdul Iqbal KC ruled he must be treated as a dangerous offender to protect the public.

The court heard how Wright repeatedly raped a young boy, but despite a police investigation at the time, no further action was taken. Wright then went on to commit further rape offences against a girl, forcing detectives to reopen the earlier case. Yesterday, Recorder Iqbal delivered a damning assessment of Wright’s behaviour, jailing him for two years for the offences involving the boy, and imposing a further nine years for the rape offences against the girl, along with an extended licence period of four years.

Wright will have to serve the full two‑year sentence first, then at least two‑thirds of the nine‑year term — and he will only be released if the Parole Board decides he is safe. He will remain on the sex offenders register for life and must comply with an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order.

Recorder Iqbal told Wright: “You contested these charges to trial and you have been convicted of them by a jury. You have shown no remorse. You continued to deny any criminal offending to the probation service when interviewed.” The judge said the inevitable and substantial sentences could never repair or erase the damage Wright had caused to his victims, who cannot be identified for legal reasons.

Wright’s crimes — spanning two young complainants and involving repeated rape — have left lasting trauma that the court acknowledged may never fully heal. His refusal to accept responsibility, even after conviction, cemented the judge’s decision to impose an extended sentence to protect the public from further harm.
